Old friend,

You may or may not have noticed, but you seem to have grown more angry and cynical since I first started following you back in 2005. Man, time has flown by, and it has been awhile. Understandable anger though, as we continue our ride down the shit-filled slip and slide.

Same shit happened to us on the Mississippi coast following Katrina. Everything focused on New Orleans, but ultimately, the significant difference between those in New Orleans and those in south Mississippi is we are far more likely to be freedom-loving, independent individuals with little to no reliance on government in our daily lives. So, we are far less likely to have that perception during the clean-up and recovery period following a big storm. I was in Birmingham during the storm, but returned to my hometown where many friends and family members live within walking distance of the shore. We brought water, food and supplies just a day or two after the storm and people were already kicking out sheet-rock that had gotten wet from the storm surge, and they were all up-beat and well, fully prepared to restore their lives back to the way it was before the storm. And it happened for the vast majority of people I know with no need for any fucking government support. Of course, that is not the perspective the media tries to convey, now is it? Good luck to your folks back in Hatteras!
