Favoritism for Women in Japan gone too far?

From women-only seats in libraries to female-only university cafes, it would seem that women get a lot of preferential treatment in Japan. Whether it be a restaurant with “ladies’ courses” on the menu or cinemas offering “ladies’ day” discounts, it is difficult to ignore the abundance of cheap deals or special services on offer to women. On the one hand, it all serves to help the struggling Japanese economy, but a lot of men can’t help but feel that they’re being a little discriminated against.

One man online comments on how the exclusive women-only seating system in some public libraries can be a real inconvenience: “It began to rain quite hard so I thought I’d seek refuge in my local library. Everyone had the same idea, so the inside was quite crowded. Just when I thought I’d found a seat, I was told by the librarian that it was for women only. As a result, I was made to stand for a good half hour. I’m really not satisfied with the situation.” (Office worker, 34)

In Taito City Library in Tokyo, there is a place to relax and read the latest daily newspapers. However, of the 50 seats available, 10 of them are reserved for women only. Hoping to shed some light on the situation, the manager of the library commented, “Many of our female customers complained that the men were taking all the seats or that even if a seat were available, the gaze from the men was off-putting.“

It doesn’t stop here. At one co-ed university in Saitama Prefecture, there’s also a female-exclusive cafe. The first floor can be used by either sex, however the second is strictly for female patrons only.

“The second floor isn’t only a cafe but also kind of like a makeup room. There are three full-length mirrors as well five mirrors located on the counters. Compared to the first floor, it is far more luxurious,” commented a member of the public relations department for the same university.

The university asserts that it is entirely co-educational, but the recent introduction of a human society department and courses has resulted in a sudden and welcome increase in the number of female students.

“We wanted to create a space where women can relax. Providing such facilities also provides an incentive for female students to enroll in the university,” comments the same department.

Well, if that’s the case, are there male-only areas as well? According to lawyer Yukata Iwaki, there could be a constitutional problem in giving favor to one sex over another.

“Creating women-only areas actually carries a high risk of breaching the laws of equality,” he says. “Installing a male-only area would offset this but it really is best to think carefully when it comes to gender exclusivity and public places.”

Japan’s train service is well known for its women-only carriages, where during the morning rush hour only women are allowed on board. The introduction of such measures is proven to be effective in combating sexual harassment or molestation, however some men can’t help but find it to be inconvenient and, to be honest, a little unfair that they should be bunched in with the small percentage of males who can’t keep their hands to themselves.

What do you think about this rather delicate issue? Should men-only spaces also be installed to make the things entirely equal?

I for one would like a male only space on the train because there would be 50% less people and I might actually get to sit down instead of standing for half an hour.

I've never seen a female only cafe I think the author was cherry picking.

Well that can't be helping the train groping if they treat women like some goddesses that need to have a special carriage of their own. Those men clearly come from homes where everything to do with females and sexuality was highly taboo so creating places where women assemble just to be with their own kind is only going to add to their messed up way of thinking and reinforce their idea of women as these far out of reach alien creatures they couldn't possibly ever have any sort of relationship with. Which is why they resort to doing things like secretly videotaping under their skirts.

I won't waste to much words on this but this is a very lackadaisical way of reasoning. V-Taping under their skirts and groping is hardly a form of worship.
These men are just a subgroup of a larger group called horny men. That's about it.

I think you're both right.

The groper groups is a super small minority of people. 95% of the women are riding the train in the co-ed carts.
However, there is a lot of self segregation of the sexes and women are worshiped and seen as some untouchable god like creatures. SO many Japanese people are severely introverted

I think the japanese hermit thing is bullshit. Its some ugly women who happens to speak English who went on a rampage and it got picked up by clueless western media.

All men everywhere love sex.

All men everywhere love sex.
Im sure there are "some" men out there that dont like sex although a minority.
I would say, all people everywhere love their parts rubbed. Women love sex; however, some women just don't openly express it and some women dont like sex with men because many men dont know how to please a woman in bed. If your woman was getting off (not faking it), then she would want sex as much as you. Communication in the bedroom is key. I taught my spouse how to please me, so we both get off everytime unless we are just doing a favor for the other ones benfit from time to time.

To the thread topic, I dont see a problem with it. 8)

Women’s desires are also biological. I’m not sure there is a way to tell which sex is the most sexual. In the past, it just wasn’t 'kosher' for women to be as vocal about sexual desires as men. The last few decades’ women are really starting to be more vocal with their desires as they become less dependent on men for their income. The rates of infidelity among women are also on the rise. Sexual harassment in the workplace reported by men is also being reported as women start to take over key management positions. I believe true data about women’s sexual desires will be more known years from now. Women also engage in sex tourism they just don’t go to Japan or Southeast Asia. South America and Jamaica tends to be the hot spots for women wanting sex vacations.

sex industries sells everything even men to men and to women
sex industries even sells children esp in Japan and southeast asia
