What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
If people can't see Obama for what he is now then it's a lost cause. It's like arguing with religious cultists, they are immune to facts, reason, and commons sense. Instead they start with a conclusion that is psychologically comfortable and then set out to defend it, no matter what. The word Obama makes me want to barf. At least people, in general, hated Bush. But with Obama, it's worse because he is doing all the same things yet people love him for it. They remind me of battered spouses. All abuses are excused and met with delusion.
I don't know maybe it's just hard for people to own up. I mean here they were so fanatical about something with so much emotion invested in it and then they were dead wrong. They look like fools. (because they are). So it's very hard for them to admit it even to themselves. Best of all the people they were calling crazy, were right about Obama all along.
But now what do we do? How can we let them save face but quit supporting a warmongering, genocide supporting thief and corporate whore? Say he lied to them? But see he didn't really. Sure his rhetoric was carefully worded but his action should have spoken louder than his words. As a senator he voted for sanctions, domestic spying, more war, and bailouts. So why would anyone think that as president he would be any different?
Because they didn't know he did all those things because they are stupid and got their news from late night comedy shows and leftest talking heads on ABCNNBCBS News. And when you confront them on this, there is no response. They cannot acknowledge it. Instead they bring up a new topic or bash on Bush. Well screw Bush. That still doesn't change Obama. In action he is another Bush

Re: What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
i try to talk about obama's lying rhetoric during his campaign, and how his actions speak for themselves. i even try to explain this to my professors, but everyone seems to just run around the subject.
so obviously the topic of your post is right on; WHAT DOES IT TAKE???
you direct them to a youtube video: they laugh at you
you show them a book: they laugh because it's not peer reviewed
you show them hard facts: they laugh because it's not peer reviewed
you show them the meersheimer(sp?) and walt: they dismiss it as anti semetism
you want to discuss israel's apartheid: either they are sympathetic and it ends there, or they change the subject
i dont know how many educated people have told me that i should stop reading "fringe material" and stick to peer reviewed textbooks or some stupid shit.
it's so ridiculously infuriating, i just want to heel hook them straight to the hospital.

Oftentimes have I heard you speak of one who commits a wrong as though he were not one of you, but a stranger unto you and an intruder upon your world.

Re: What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
You can even break it down to one issue real simple. Obama voted to keep the patriot act. Now without going on any tangents please defend this. They won't do it. They will go on a tangent.
I swear its like they are psychologically incapable of acknowledging that the minority hero of hope and change is just an uncle tom wall street sell out, war lusting zionist the same as the past 4 presidents.

In other words, they don't want to think and judge for themselves. In other words, they are not mentally grown up and they are giving up their right to think critically and spend time and energy mulling over concepts and doing inductive and deductive reasoning. Then I say leave those children to themselves. We adults here who can sense something is amiss and that there is an NWO type agenda have real research to do and facts to trade and action to take such as vaccine resistance for example. Not to mention exposing the HIV and AIDS lies too. Researchers like me when looking at the contents of vaccines go straight to the ingredient insert and then straight to the medical literature that talks about ill effects of squalene and polysorbate 80 (swine flu vaccine) and make proper informed judgments. I even saw some guy on a news clip once saying about his getting the flu vaccine, "It's a matter of blind faith for me." Couldn't have said it better myself. People may be getting more secular in their personal life, but they still have an anti reason, religious type mindset.mgbyrnc wrote:i dont know how many educated people have told me that i should stop reading "fringe material" and stick to peer reviewed textbooks or some stupid shit.
Buck the neocons. Fuck 'em too.
Re: What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
It doesn't matter if a book has peer review or not. You don't have to even go there. Obama is not some person we don't have access to. His voting record and actions as a president are publicly available straight from the primary source.
The man co-sponsored a bill to put sanctions on Iran. He has tripled the size of the war in Afghanistan. The guy bailed out wall street with no shame. Reappointed Bernake, Kept Robert Gates. etc etc read the link in the first post. The list is so long it's not funny.

unfortunately people have responses to these or are just ignorant, so a little more info is needed to make any headway. for instance lets look at some normal responses:Ry wrote:It doesn't matter if a book has peer review or not. sanctions on Iran? - Iran is a psycho theocracy and Ahmadinejad is an anti-semetic
patriot act? - we don't want another 9/11 durrr
wall street bailout? - it's better than the disintegration of the economic system
war in Afghanistan? - we need more oil
reappointed Bernanke? - investors have confidence in him, thus helping the economy
Gates? - nobody knows who that is or what he has done.
corporations control the state? - yea it's called capitalism...
9/11 Oklahoma and 7/7 false flags? tonkin? uss liberty? ig farben? = lol conspiracy theorist... go put on your tin foil hat.
i've been searching for something that is completely irrefutable so that when confronted, a person could either accept it, or ignore it, not excuse it or deny it.

at least those are answers even though they are stupid answers. But here is the thing. The same people with those kind of answers were mad at Bush for doing all the same things.unfortunately people have responses to these or are just ignorant, so a little more info is needed to make any headway. for instance lets look at some normal responses:

I want to do a film of me arguing with some Obama nut hugger. The problem is I can't find any where I live. Not one person I know supports him. I've been asking around and know one I know even knows someone who supports him.
Of course we are the most unemployed county in the state with the poorest people.

Re: What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
Well our state was a blue state Ry. The closer you get to the western border the more left leaning people there are. I work with a guy that is always talking about how he's a proud southerner and talking shit about all the Mexicans that come into my work, but he voted for Obama because he believes in a strong federal government. I thought I was gonna move to the south and everyone was going to be a bunch of secessionists but I couldn't have been more wrong. Guess you gotta go to Texas to meet those people.
"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -Einstein
Re: What does it take to pop the false hope bubble?
I'm in a blue state too. North Carolina went to Obama. But not our county. I think he may have got 40 votes max. We really only have a few issues here, access to the beach, prevention of erosion, and region tax like those on fishing license, motel lodging, and property.
