Best way to Respond to Ron Paul attack

Post by capauncha » Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:04 pm

I at a anti-Ron Paul forum and wonder how to respond to one attack.
Since you seem to be approaching this purely from an Economic Standpoint, I'd like to point out that Ron Paul is one of the worst Candidates you could support. He designs his policies to grab attention and make you feel good about voting for him, economics are either a secondary concern or not taken into consideration. Many of his policies have substantial financial Dark-sides he's either ignoring, downplaying or completely unaware of.

Ideas like recalling all troops from Foreign Soil sound very nice, but it's not free. Most of the savings is going to be eaten by Transportation costs, shutting down the bases, and housing Troops and equipment back here in the states.

Your opponent is an idiot, totally wrong, or just spewing claims lacking substance. All policies have a dark sides. But, they are shades of grey, not strictly black. Even if economics were a secondary concern, and they are not, it wouldn't diminish the importance and relation to other concerns.

So, we must continue to occupy the world because it would be cheaper than not. Worked for the Romans and the British, right?

But really, you can't argue with someone who is stupid, clearly insane, or both. It's a total waste of time. Move on.

This argument does not look at the whole picture, but only picks on certain points, analyzing them as a closed system (i.e. with no regard for any of the other points that might effect it), where flaws can be speculated. It is a poor argument.

The issue of transportation costs seems exaggerated, especially since troops are always being transported everywhere anyway, and they apparently have no problems shifting them back and forth to places like Afghanistan or onto any other foreign soil, so why exactly would it be a problem shifting them back home? Even if there was, the trillions wasted on corporate bailout money, foreign aid and corrupt bureaucracies, would be more than enough to cover whatever excessive transportation costs there are (as well as a host of other necessary expenses), if those unnecessary expenses were cut. Things aren't so tight where every expense by the government is absolutely necessary for the economy.

that argument implies that we must never bring the troops home, ever.

That clip becomes more amazingly accurate the more it is watched.

He knew it all a time ago and if he weren't a comedian, he'd be treated as a conspiracy theorist.

Which is even more genius.

Why wouldn't you look it up yourself?

Why come to a place which is very pro RP and ask for a rebuttal to a simple point instead of LEARNING about it for when it comes up again.

Is this why we're basically fucked?

I did respond to post with my own rebuttal. The reason I go to the forum was to see if I miss any arguments to use.
